After 6 years of delivering scrummy healthy lunches at SHINE, we are now on the road delivering lunches for 10+ people.
By using SHINE’s catering service you are helping us to help women with convictions.
SHINE’s Eat Good, Do Good program, in partnership with HMP Askham Grange, allows us to train, rehabilitate and give more women employment – prior to and after their release date.
Did you know..
In 2010, more than 17,000 children were separated from their mothers by imprisonment. For 8 out of 10 children, its the first time they have been separated from their mums for more than a day or so. Fewer that 1 in 10 children whose mother is in prison are cared for by their father in her absence. Approximately 40% are cared for by grandparents or other family members and only 5% remain in their own home. source: Prison Reform Trust
The women with convictions who work at SHINE often have kids. Working at SHINE allows them to save up for rent on a property to move into with their kids once they are released. It gives them self-esteem, hope and a sense of normality, helping them rebuild their lives after a sentence….
“I have made a success of my life after serving a sentence. The stability of having a job where my career has developed and allowed me to take advantage of the opportunities that came up. This has resulted in me living a regular life with good employment in order to support my children. I enjoy my job and really do not know where I would be without the support I have from Shine for my family and me. Thank you Shine.” – person with convictions.
We want to help more women and their families get back on track and break the cycle of re-offending.
Order your lunch from SHINE and you can help those families get back on track.
