I’m Helen and I’m Shine’s Finance Assistant. For abut 18 months I’ve been involved in assisting Dawn, Shine’s founder. This includes anything to do with the financial side of things as well as the pay roll, HR and purchasing.
I originally studied History and Geography at university with the intention of becoming a teacher. Both my mum and my auntie quickly talked me out of that, being teachers themselves! And from there, despite saying I would never work with figures, it’s what I’ve done all of my working life. I realised that I actually really enjoy working with facts and figures and I love it.
I discovered Shine through an advert for the role I’m currently in. Throughout my life I’ve tried to be involved in a number of voluntary roles and projects. This has included being on parish councils and a licensee for a local community centre. I even joined the village drama club as a secretary before ending up actually doing some acting!
After researching Shine, I saw the opportunity to move my career into this sort of work, rather than keeping the two separate. 18 months on, I love my job more than ever. Besides working with some brilliant people who all get on well together, this area of Leeds is quite special.
I’m from South East Leeds originally and after living all over the UK, I’ve gravitated back. If I had to choose one last meal, I would keep it traditional with roast beef and Yorkshire puddings.
Aside from being in the land of ‘real’ Yorkshire puddings, Shine is also based where many of my father’s ancestors came from. Getting this job and being a part of this community makes it really feel like coming home. It’s lovely.
So, if you’re planning an event in the area, needing catering services, conference rooms or meeting spaces, please get in touch with Shine!
