Hello! I’m Samantha and I am a Meeting and Events Sales Executive here at Shine. I’ve worked in sales for quite a long time now but in a very different (and more stressful) sector.
With a background in events management, my career has involved wedding planning and corporate hotel events. I’m originally from Wetherby but have since moved out to Wakefield. A lot of my previous work has been based in North Yorkshire, so Leeds was a little unknown to me.
I always thought I wanted to work in the big city hotels but I tried it, and I hated it. It was too cut-throat and instead, I started to work on lots of charity events. This sparked an interest in projects that can do something good in a community.
Whilst I enjoyed wedding planning, the ‘bridezillas’ did make it testing and I decided it was time for a change. I took some time away from work to start my own family. My husband and I are currently trying to recreate a favourite childhood memory of mine with my little girls. Every Saturday evening, we have an indoor picnic in the lounge complete with Saturday night TV and hot chocolate and marshmallows.
It’s slightly unhealthy but aren’t all the best foods? My all-time favourite would have to be sausage and mash with gravy. My mum used to cook it every year for my birthday treat I love it so much.
But more about Shine! I came across this job being advertised with Shine and naturally, did a bit of investigating. I fell in love with the ethos behind the business straight away. It was one of those moments where you just know you have to get the job and luckily I did.
Even though this role is similar to what I’ve always done, I really do love coming to work every day. I’m able to do what I enjoy and know it’s for a good reason, it’s making a difference.
Working at Shine has also given me the opportunity to go beyond events and sales keeping things even more interesting. I’ve started to get involved in the social interest side of things. I help in-house ex-offenders on a more personal level when they come to the end of their sentences. It’s a very rewarding.
I’ve also never worked in a place where the people have been so nice and welcoming. I’ve only been at Shine for four months but I absolutely love it. Everyone is here for the same reason, making us a strong team. We’re all really invested in our roles, as well as the other aspects of Shine.
My celebrity crush is James Corden. I love people who can make me laugh and I find him hilarious. I love his chunk too!
So, if you’re planning an event in the Leeds area and need some meeting or conference space to hold it in, contact Shine for more information.
