A Social Enterprise which gives women ex-offenders a second chance to rebuild their lives is expanding its services.
Leeds-based Shine launched its outside catering offer in 2016 and has been building it with great response – Eat Good, Do Good – delivering handmade, locally sourced and sustainable catering to offices in Leeds.
Shine already offers conference and office space in an award winning, beautifully-restored grade-II listed building in Harehills, Leeds, with catering for events held on its premises.
The new service will provide even more training and job opportunities to boost its social aims with ex-offenders working on cooking and preparing the food for breakfasts, business and working lunches. The offer includes healthy options, vegetarian and halal, bespoke packages, formal dining, buffets, themed food, canapes and drinks.
The meals will be prepared in the catering kitchen in Harehills, then delivered by Shine’s Eat Good, Do Good Catering Leeds team.
Shine Managing Director Dawn O’Keefe said: “At Shine we believe everyone deserves a second chance and we know that having employment on release from prison greatly reduces the likelihood of re-offending. As the business has become well-established, customers have been consistently rating our food as one of the reasons they book Shine for their meetings. So it seemed a natural progression to offer outside catering, to enable us to make an even bigger social impact.”
Jane, from Rawdon, a 45-year-old single mother of four, is one of the women supported by the scheme. She said “I have now made a success of my life after serving a sentence. The stability of having a job where my career has developed has resulted in me living a regular life with good employment so I can support my children. I enjoy my job and really don’t know where I would be without the support I get from Shine for my family and myself.”
