I’m Kristian and I’m currently the Head of Events and Customer Experience at Shine. I’ve been here for around five years working in a number of different roles in several areas of the company – nearly half of Shine’s lifetime!
I’m originally from Manchester so how did I end up in Leeds working for Shine?
I came to Leeds Beckett University to study Events Management and it was in that time that I came to know about Shine and start working on their team and five years later, I’m still enjoying it.
During my four-year course, I was lucky enough to have a placement year with Shine. This included some front of house roles, working on the operational side of things as well as with the catering team which was ideal for really getting to know the team and what goes on here.
Although Manchester isn’t too far away, I do miss it! I always describe Manchester as a sort of mini London just because of its size and variety. It surprised me when I first came to Leeds by how small it is in comparison. Here, you can walk to most places in the city from another in a reasonable amount of time. In Manchester, we had to get taxis across the city!
But obviously in the time I’ve been living here, Leeds has changed a lot. The Trinity Shopping Centre has popped up and the new Victoria Gate Shopping Centre has arrived too so Leeds is definitely growing on me.
As well as seeing Leeds grow and develop, I’ve seen Shine do the same. I started off only working a few days a week just part-time. As Shine grew I was offered more shifts. I was given a full time role when I graduated. This was great news!
When on placement with Shine and from seeing others join over the years, the people are a huge part of the company. The people you’re working with obviously have an impact on how much you enjoy your job. I think that’s what I enjoy the most about being a part of Shine. We know how to have fun and have a laugh whilst getting the job done. We create an atmosphere that clients and employees want to be in.
So, outside of work, who am I? That’s always a tricky one when someone will always come out with something that sounds one hundred times more interesting than what you thought was your most exciting! I’ll stick to the usual ‘fun fact’ questions instead.
A Labrador is the animal I would be from a nice family home. Purely because I’d be looked after well, get lots of tasty treats, go on nice walks and get to snooze in front of the fire when it started getting a bit chilly.
Steak with peppercorn sauce, triple-cooked chips, and a glass of red wine. That would be my last meal on earth if I had to choose one . Oh, and some greens to make it a bit healthy so maybe some asparagus too!
