My name is Keira and I’m a catering assistant at Shine. I’m trained in several aspects of the catering sector and tend to work in many different areas at Shine. I’m able and happy to work where I’m needed the most. I predominantly work in the café and the kitchen.
I’m originally from South West London and always had a soft spot for redbrick buildings and independent brands. Having lived in Leeds for five years, I somewhat stumbled on Shine. This was due to my interest in independent companies and I quickly fell for Shine. The Grade 2 Listed redbrick school converted into an outfit to benefit the local community. I feel really privileged to work in a place as unique as Shine.
Before working at Shine, I was working in a kitchen on my own so it’s really nice to have a friendly team to work with. There’s around 15 or 20 of us now all working together and it definitely makes a difference to how enjoyable it is to come to work. If you’ve ever been into the Shine café on a nice day, you’ll see that the view helps a little bit too. From the café till, you can look straight through the huge arched glass windows towards the city.
So aside from Shine, what is there to know about me?
I’ve been a vegetarian for 16 years and I think Leeds has a lot to offer for vegetarians. I am a sucker for a good Indian dish and I think if I had to choose my final ever meal on Earth it would be a really good saag paneer, with Peshwari naan.
Come rain or shine I will always cycle to work and my 30 minute commute certainly does wake me up ready for a day of frothing milk and brewing tea.
If you’re looking for any outside catering or catered meeting spaces and conference rooms, feel free to contact Shine and we’ll be happy to help. Or, if you’re simply in the Leeds area, come and see Shine for yourself and grab something to eat in the café.
