In support of our local charity Catch the Shine Eat Good Do Good team are donating the left over sandwiches and salads from the cafe at Shine. It makes sense to donate the food, which is still fresh and delicious to a good cause.
Food waste is something that we all need to tackle and making sure that we are not sending good food to landfill is extremely important. We would recommend all cafes in the area to do the same as Catch is a great charity working with Children in the area and helping them to have a place to go and provide them with activities and mentors.
If you have a cafe or restaurant elsewhere then find a charity that you can help and do the same!
CATCH stands for Community Action To Change Harehills. It was formed by concerned and passionate residents and individuals with one common goal, ‘to help improve Harehills; and in particular work with the young people to offer them better life chances’.
CATCH is a voluntary led group made up of people who live and work in Harehills which ensures costs are low and the organisation remains rooted in the community it serves. It was established in January 2011 to initially manage and develop a piece of wasteland known as ‘The Hovingham Project’ which started in 2009 with support from the Gipton & Harehills Neighbourhood Policing Team.
In October 2012 CATCH became a registered Charity. The name was also changed to CATCH Leeds in order that other areas in Leeds could be included in the work. In January 2013 CATCH in partnership with West Yorkshire Police, Leeds City Council, Hovingham Primary School launched ‘The Hub’ – a community and youth provision which offers a range of services.
