Hi, I am Adriana and I come from the country with the best coffee in the world: Colombia; I lived and worked in Bogotá, which is the country’s capital. I studied Accountancy at the university, and I worked for about ten years in that area. I am married to Oscar, who is the reason I am in Leeds.
One day Oscar told me that he had sent an email to Nigel (a professor at the University of Leeds), maybe to get a chance to do postgraduate studies at that university; I said ok, it could be a good opportunity for us, but between us, I never thought this could happen, because we would have to sell all our stuff and start a new life away from our families.
Anyway, after a year of preparation, we travelled to UK and as many people here, we came looking for new opportunities and to make our dreams come true.
After a while in Leeds, I decided it was time to get a job. I will never forget what I felt when I entered Shine to have an interview with Kristian and Alina, the building was amazing, I could feel a good atmosphere on the air. That day I thought I want to work here!
As I mentioned earlier, I am from Colombia where the coffee is an important thing, so I enjoy arriving to my job in the mornings with the smell of fresh and roasted coffee in our kitchen. This reminds me of home!
I enjoy many things about working at Shine, but specially the social purpose and the people who work here. I like the way Shine helps people, people who really need it. I had never thought about what happens with people in jail, what happens after they finish their sentences, have you?
Additionally, Shine is working with charities, local schools and different organisations to create opportunities. I love all this social commitment.
As Kristian says, the customer service is the most important thing in Shine. But besides an excellent customer service, the client will find at Shine all the facilities for conferences, along with fresh, nice, and delicious food, and our speciality in Refreshments: tea and coffee always on time!
In my free time, I try and cook healthy recipes to post on my own blog, until now it was my best kept secret. Like most Latin-American people I enjoy dancing salsa and other tropical rhythms, but most that all in the world, sharing time with my family, which is the most important for me.
If you’re looking for any outside catering or catered meeting spaces and conference rooms, feel free to contact Shine and we’ll be happy to help. Or, if you’re simply in the Leeds area, come and see Shine for yourself and grab something to eat in the café.
